Date Day in Craster | Northumberland

It was time for one of mine and Mrs. Cool's regular date days and after mix up with our National Trust cards scuppered our planned visit to Cragside we decided to visit Craster instead. Craster in Northumberland is one of my favourite places on Earth. Dunstanburgh Castle is my favourite Castle in Northumberland (probably my favourite anywhere) and I love the walk along the coast from Craster to Dunstanburgh. We didn't have our walking boots on so we didn't do the mile and bit walk this time so instead we decided to have lunch at the Jolly Fisherman.

The Jolly Fisherman is a great pub and had some great food but it can get busy so can sometimes be hit and miss whether you will get a table. We were lucky this time and managed to bag a table on the balcony over looking the coast.

We'd already had breakfast so weren't after a huge lunch so I went for the Northumbrian Broth and Mrs. Cool went for the Crab Soup and we split a portion of chips. The Northumbrian Broth was really good, full of flavour and very hearty with lots of vegetables and lentils, you also get a slice of sourdough bread to mop it up with, perfect. Mrs. Cool's Crab Soup is made with crab caught by the local fishermen and it had some seriously big chunks of crab and as with the broth the flavour was incredible. The chips at The Jolly Fisherman are pretty special too, cooked in beef dripping and nice and crispy on the outside but still fluffy in the middle.

My other favourite thing about Craster is the smokehouse. L. Robson & Sons have been smoking fish in Craster for four generations in the same smokehouse. Smoking Salmon, Haddock and Cod as well as the world famous Craster Kippers. My favourite product they make is the Craster Kipper Pate, it is great on some toast and I'll be polishing that off in the next few days so keep an eye on my Instagram for that. We also picked up some Smoked Bacon for our breakfast the next day.

I'm sad that this will most likely be the last time we dine al fresco this year but we will be back at Craster soon. There is a restaurant at the smokehouse that is also really good and we haven't been there for a while now so need to head back next time.

Well, that's all for now.
